HAPPINESS..
A word which has different meanings for different people.. a word with a myriad of interpretations.. so how would you define the word? An A in the project? Getting your dream job? A lot of money in hand? Booze all day? A date with your spouse? A Long drive? 2-square meals in a day? A place to live in? Watching a movie for the umpteenth time and still crying at the emotional climax????
Or..when you get to smile so much, you forget all your worries.. and just want the feeling to continue?
As I'm writing this, I see myself remembering all the good times I've had in life.. and trust me, none of them connect with money.. I’ve had so many beautiful moments in life.. When I got a beautiful watch as a gift.. When I was thrilled with some results.. Whenever we went out with friends.. Whenever we friends, remembered our outings.. Some first experiences.. and lots and lots and lots more..
But then.. do we feel happy because we were able to get a gift without spending money? Because we could go out and get to spend money on stuff we really like?
Or is it because, you feel happy when others around you are happy? You get a surprise gift, it’s the surprise that gives you joy.. when you see your parents are proud of you, you feel you are worth it.. When your friends miss you when you aren’t around..your life’s got meaning..
When you walk on the streets and find a tramp begging..and you give him a chocolate..you see a smile light up his face.. doesn’t it make your day??
Happiness is all about perceiving it in your heart..not about measuring it in your brain..
Just go out there..and let loose.. probably that will give you the happiness you seek.. Holding yourself, restraining yourself..doesn't help.. Happiness is all about being yourself..not being what others want you or expect you to be..
Have a Happy Life..

(Boral, you better treat me for the free advertising I just gave your blog :P )
if u want to be happy u can be , even without having nothing in your hands ....but if u dont then nothing can make u happy ....... to me mental satisfaction is the prime source of happiness ....... it depends upon us ... wht we want ,nd how we interpret our surroundings.....It's like a signal that one needs to catch....
ReplyDeleteI agree... happiness is relative... What makes you happy depends on what your priorities in life are, and what you consider as more important and dear to you, compared to something else...
ReplyDeleteOn a lighter note, I hope all those assignments and presentations are keeping you happy :P
I would rather not think of them!! I'm still waiting for that "Happy-Happy" feeling to come..which was there initially..especially 2 weeks back :)
ReplyDeleteA break would help perhaps.. :P

ReplyDeletehappiness is an illusion.it is an idea planted into the head by ourselves......we are happy when we want to be happy, rather we are happy when we think we shud be happy.....i wud say it is a feeling that keeps us going.
ReplyDeleteu say we are happy when othrs are happy, but does such sanity prevail when we see othrs succeed at our own cost?? u say we r happy may b at our success, but human nature too forces us to strive for more. u say gifts please us, but then agn sum wud say..."sumthng bttr wud really make me happy".
its a myth. we force ourselves to be happy. we neevr knw when we shud actually b happy. we smile, we make othrs smile, we share, we care but are we really happy?? may b yes may be no.
wat is real happiness?? money ?? fame?? peace of mind?? no one knws....it is just a temporary escape frm this materialistic world, only to be brought back.
come lets venture in to the path of unknwn and find THE REAL HAPPINESS

ooh la la..people might actually wanna read your comment more, rather than my post!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't mean that just making others happy makes you happy..but that's a part of it.you become happy for yourself too..obviously if others are happy at your cost, there's nothing in it for you..but then..sometimes..just sometimes..living for others makes you feel good.
Live for yourself and for others..it's a good combination :)
...thanks preetha ....for ur pertinent questions.... :)
ReplyDeletei agree wid you and sutirtha... though ur views differ .... in keeping wid the multifaceted and diverse nature of happiness ... the 'thing' we spend all our lives chasing.
Life is a struggle with intermittent bursts of pleasure we call HappYness..... it is sumthing we desire for ourselves and the people whom we love the most ...
maybe its an illusion...a myth ? maybe it is the point of living ... maybe we can never truly be happy..."independently happy that is- happiness wich does not depend on anyone else"...but we will all spend our lives trying to find ....chasing this illusion/fact...
here's hoping all of us find that illusive treasure called happiness ... ;)
take care n God bless u all.
My only point is..in life, happiness doesn't have any connection whatsoever..with money..
ReplyDeleteHappiness is all about you..being yourself..letting loose..seeing yourself and others happy..that's it.
Money comes n goes..you don't have control over it..hence won't lead you to being happy. This is what I feel.
Happiness and unhappiness are opposite sides of a judgement about a situation. If we judge our situation bad, that's unhappiness. If we judge a situation good, that's happiness. The experience of happiness is when we use to say, "I feel good emotionally." People use different terms to describe what feels good for them. For someone it might be excitement, passion, fulfillment, freedom, joy. For another it might be more peaceful, content, satisfied, and comfortable. When we remove all the uncomfortable emotions we humans experience (and they are numerous),we are left with happiness. So it's easiest to define happiness by what it is not.Happiness is what you feel when you're NOT feeling depressed, fearful, worried, unsatisfied, bored, grief, shame, guilt, discontent, anxious, annoyed, angry, irritated, stressed, frustrated, upset, down, sad, envious or jealous.(pretty long list!!!)
ReplyDeleteFinally,I fully support preetha's views-"in life,happiness doesn't have any connection whatsoever..with money.."very well said..truly.
